At CBI, Confirmation is a 3-year program for post-b’nai mitzvah students in 8th through 10th grade, meeting on Sunday mornings. This class builds on the foundation of earlier learning and is structured to encourage discussion, active learning, and critical thinking on a number of subjects and themes such as ethics and social justice, Jewish history and observance, gender, anti-semitism, comparative religion, Israel and Palestine, and much more.

From midrash to mussar, from holidays to halacha, from pop culture to Jews in the news, Confirmation students continue their Jewish education, delve deeper into various topics, and grow into both role models for younger students and engaged members of the congregation.

Who said senior citizens and teens have nothing in common?

At CBI’s Academy of Jewish Learning, the Better Together program brings our teen students together with senior guests for learning, connection, fun, and community building.

Better Together, a grant-funded program, offers teen Confirmation students eight lessons over the course of the academic year on topics such as wisdom, aging, responsibility, and inclusion. Our senior guests are then invited to eight sessions with the teens to study and learn, socialize, or create.

Past Better Together senior and teen sessions have included playing games, learning from clergy, studying Jewish texts and about Jewish beliefs and rituals, painting with a local artist, a field trip to a museum, learning with local veterinary professionals, a senior exercise class, reading books together, and sharing special meals.

With Better Together, our CBI community and our bonds to each other grow stronger!

Albuquerque Jewish senior citizens interested in joining us for this amazing program can email grant leads at dawn.es@live.com or sregelman@msn.com for more information, session topics and dates.
